Organisée par la Société Royale des Beaux Arts de Jordanie, en collaboration avec le réseau pan-méditerranéen d’artistes femmes Femme-Art-Méditerranée (F.A.M., créé à Rhodes et basé en Grèce), cette exposition itinérante rassemble des œuvres de 51 femmes vivant ou originaires de 22 pays d’islam ; des artistes "pas forcément de croyance musulmane" et dont le travail "n’est illustratif d’aucun aspect religieux" ; des artistes musulmanes, chrétiennes, bouddhistes et hindoues qui "contribuent à l’héritage culturel de l’humanité".
Toutes les œuvres présentées dans cette exposition appartiennent à la collection permanente de la Galerie nationale des Beaux Arts de Jordanie à Amman. S. M. la Reine Rania Al-Abdullah de Jordanie a inauguré l’exposition en septembre 2002 lors de sa première présentation à Rhodes.
Après la Grèce, la France, l’Espagne, l’Italie, le Luxembourg et l’Australie, l’exposition est aux Etats Unis où elle a été accueillie à Little Rock (Arkansas), Hattiesburg (Mississippi), Washington DC et New Haven (Connecticut) où elle est présentée actuellement.
La tournée mondiale de l’exposition devrait prendre fin en juin 2011 aux Nations-Unies. On doit cette initiative de tournée américaine de l’exposition à la ArtReach Foundation.
